Even though this is VERY LATE, I thought I would do a little school year reflection that would give everyone a little taste of what the first year of high school was like for me, class by class. So, without further-ado...
2008-2009 School Year
1st Period: Biology- To be honest, I was definitely not looking forward to this class because first of all, Biology was boring and easy, and second of all, it was the first class of the day. Kind of a bummer way to start off the day, learning about ecosystems and matter and energy cycles and what not. And to top it all off, it was my only class that I really had no friends in. But I actually learned a lot in this class, especially about the human body. Did you know that it is possible to have a brain transplant? But no one has EVER had that and the success rate of that surgery is like 1 in three billion. I also met Kori Maitlen, who is super nice. I love her to death, and Bio without her would probably be super boring. We would always make fun of our teacher, Mr. Allen. Speaking of him, Mr. Phillip Allen is one of the most... different people I have met in my life. Once a week, without fail, he would tell us bits and pieces of his life story. He was once in a punk rock band in college, filmed some National Geographic episodes, was a firefighter in California that jumped out of airplanes, has two sons that look like girls, and was most definitely a hippie with his wife for a while. I'm not sure if I learned more about Biology or his personal life. But, this class was a breeze and although I enjoyed it sometimes, I'm glad I am done with that class.
2nd Period: P.E.- This was BY FAR one of my favorite classes EVER! I had it with Larisa Wallace, one of my best friends, which was really nice since some people in our class were... how do I put this nicely... utterly horrible. We ran the mile together, we came in last place in the doubles badminton tournament together, we made up a tinikling routine together, basically we did everything in that class together. But it just wasn't us. We were two members of a Trio. The third member was of course, our teacher Ms. Melissa Brodsky. Whenever we would get bored, we would always walk on over to Ms. Brodsky and just talk to her about basically anything from what we did the day before to putting her on the Bachelorette. She was seriously like one of us, and we would always talk about the P.E. drama that was going on (A.K.A. the different relationships that were going on in our class and the annoying people). Oh, and Elliot. Wow. He is probably THE MOST ANNOYING PERSON you will ever meet in your life. Haha but that class pretty much put me in a good mood for the rest of the day. This is one class I will miss a lot next year.
3rd Period: French- Yikes. This class was pretty bad. It always seemed the longest and the most boring of the day. But Sydney Brovick and Alix Ruble were in this class, which made it almost bearable. My teacher, Madame Sandrine Collomb pretty much ruined all the fun I had in the past years taking French (which was minimal in the first place), so I decided early on that this would be my last year of taking French ever. I only really learned tenses and grammar in this class which DID NOT prepare me for my trip to France. So, thank you, Madame Collomb, for being so crazy and anal that I did not learn almost anything in your class. I am glad I'm done with your class and I hope you continue to hardly ever show up to class.
4th Period a) Woods- Woods was a seriously fun and relaxing class. You didn't really have to think in that class and you could do basically whatever you wanted in that class. Mr. Agnew is one of the nicest people I know. He would take me into his office when I looked tired and would let me take a handful of candy from his secret stash. Haha. Even though I wasn't the best at it, I learned a lot and hopefully I can use that later in life. But I'm definitely not pursuing a career in carpentry. :)
4th Period b) Computer Applications- This was probably my least favorite class EVER in the history of my school career. Basically, this was a class where you learn how to use Microsoft Office and "have a little taste of what it is like in the workplace." If bosses everywhere are horrible little... ;mhagf;kjasdhcfjdnfgj's, then count me out of working. Ms. Nogaki is probably THE worst teacher/Tech person ever in the history of the world. She yelled at me for 5 minutes straight for not writing my full name on a paper and kicked me out of class for during "free time" for looking up things about the Swine flu. What?! Oh well, I passed that class and I'm so glad I'm DONE WITH IT!
5th Period Math- Um. Yeah. Sort of self explanatory. Math is just blah in general. I did really well in this class though, which is good. I had lots of friends inthis class, so it wasn't as boring as it could be. I met Maya Zwang and that's when we really started to be friends, even though we had P.E. together. Ms. Michaelson/Hoeger was pretty chill. She got married halfway through the year and after that kind of got mean and annoying. We had lot's of dumb projects in this class which was VERY lame. Binder checks, review packets and crap like that. Out final was to make a board game that displayed a mathematical principle we learned that year...? Wow, how annoying. But anyways, math was easy, and probably the most forgettable classes ever.
6th Period English- This English was my favorite class throughout my whole academic career. I worked so hard in this class, I probably spent most of my time thinking about it/doing homework. I heard rumors about my teacher, Mr. Calvert and was, to put it mildly, scared out of my pants to be in this class. People said he never gave perfect scores and you had to work your butt off if you wanted to have an A in his class. School came natural to me and I usually didn't have to work too hard. But in Calvert's class, I had to work my tail off just to keep up with the work load. But I learned so much in his class. Not only was it the curriculum he taught, but he taught us how to be better people and better learners. I swear, Mr. Calvert is one of those people you would hate to have as your dad. He demands perfection. But, no denying it, he is brilliant. One of the smartest people I have ever met. So, he gets my approval of be Teacher of the Year. But it wasn't only him that helped me succeed. My dad spent countless hours going over and over my essays so they could be up to par. I owe him so much. Thank you. All I say now is that this is by far the class that is my ABSOLUTE favorite ever, and I'm pretty sure it will be like that for the rest of my life.
7th Period a) Beginning Guitar- The name says it all, practically. Easiest class to get an A in. All we did in this class was play songs we already knew and talked. It was also a class to sleep in practice rooms, since it was silent. One of my favorite classes, for sure. Met some pretty cool upper classmen. We would just talk about things like hotness on a scale of celebrities, how Mr. Hays was the oddest person ever, and what we were going to play for our final proficiency. Hello beautiful, I will follow you into the dark, anyone else but you, thizz face, and a special Brian doesn't know. I miss this class.
7th Period b) Foundations of World History- Boring class, but the people in it were VERY interesting. I basically had all of my friends in one class. We got in trouble a lot, but we never really cared. Our regular teacher, Ms. Mizushima, left on maternity leave two weeks into our class, so Mr. Burwash became our teacher. He was seriously THE coolest guy. I would grade his papers and I could basically do whatever I want. haha :) so funny
Overall, freshman year was cool. I sort of miss it.
